Arnis has been taught at MKKS for many years and is
brought to you through IMAF (modernarnis.net). The class
on Wednesday nights has been a long-standing class, open
to both MKKS students and non-students wishing to
explore the art of Filipino stick fighting. The age for
this class is teen or above.

The focus of this class is geared toward developing a
well-rounded martial artist. The curriculum is designed
to follow the Kenpo karate form of self-defense.

As part of the MKKS curriculum, Modern Arnis classes
offer an effective method of self-defense. As a teaching
tool, Modern Arnis helps our students learn to translate
empty hand techniques to the weapon and vice versa.
Proficiency with the cane is required to earn a Black
Belt at MKKS, creating a well-rounded martial artist.
Modern Arnis is offered as a separate class. This class
is open to MKKS students who wish to further their Arnis
studies and earn rank through the International Modern
Arnis Federation (IMAF, Inc.)
Classes
are taught by Guru 3rd Degree Tom Cushing. Tom has had
the honor of training with the late Grandmaster,
Professor Remy Presas, the creator of Modern Arnis.
Classes focus on the “bigger art” and encourage
attention to balance, position and root. The connections
between Modern Arnis and Kenpo (as well as other martial
art styles) are explored in great detail.
